The Near East Foundation Introduces:

Cans for Kids Network

Everyday you see children on the streets digging through the trash.  They sell the aluminum cans and other things they find to make a little money for their families.  Cans for Kids (CFK) is a recycling network that seeks to benefit such under privileged families.  It increases their access to recycling resources in a safe and constructive work environment. CFK is a step toward linking sustainable livelihood opportunities to the protection of the environment. CFK provides a regular pick up service to local businesses and other groups. Please consider the following benefits of participating:

1.      Helps keep children off the street and from digging through the trash

2.      Provides opportunities for underprivileged families to benefit from recycling resources

3.      Enables local businesses to protect the environment by contributing recycling resources

What we Recycle…

a) Aluminum Cans:  Pepsi, Coke, etc .  The collection and sale of aluminum cans also allows CFK to

cover costs associated with the recycling of other materials

b) All Blue Plastic Water Bottles (Ghadeer, Sabeel, etc..)

c) Clear water & soft drink bottles (Nabe’e, Kinz, Kawther, Pepsi, etc., ).

d) Other plastic:

·          Containers with an opening smaller than the container itself (oil containers, shampoo bottles, milk containers, dish washing soap, etc.) These do not need to be cleaned.

·          All other containers (Labaneh, Hummos, Yogurt, etc.) must be cleaned and free of foil.

e) Glass:  Currently there is no profit to be made recycling glass.  However, we are taking the glass we

receive to local glass blowers.  Your donation of bottles with a local deposit value (Amstel, Vin Chateau, etc.) is greatly appreciated as it helps us support the recycling network.

f) Tin cans: We are collecting tin cans (tuna, coffee, and milk cans , etc,. – paper removed and cleaned)

and are attempting to find  an appropriate recycling solution.

g) All Cardboard boxes (please flatten), except waxed cardboard boxes (e.g. cereal boxes)

What we don’t recycle…

(a) Paper:  The Jordan Environmental Society (JES) currently collects paper and can be contacted at
